Switzerland

Switzerland, the land of Alps, is a small country of Europe bordering France, Austria, Germany and Italy.  Mountain Resorts, ancient monuments, modern architecture, forests, castle, lake, museums makes Switzerland an outstanding tourist destination in Europe. Switzerland is also popular for hiking and biking as there are large network of hiking paths and more than hundred national and regional bike routes.

Some of the popular tourist attractions in Switzerland are Zurich, Geneva, Zermatt, The Chillon Castle, Swiss National Park, Engadin St. Moritz, The Rhine Falls, Aletsch Glacier, The Alps, Lucerne, Interlaken, Basel, St. Gallen and much more. Switzerland is also popular among tourist due to its very low crime rate.

Zurich: Zurich is about 2,000 year old city of Switzerland, rich in culture and history. Zurich is situated on northern shore of Zurich lake with a splendid view of snowcapped Alps on the horizon. Grossmunster, National Historical Museum, Zurich Zoo and art galleries are some of the top attraction in Zurich.

Geneva: Geneva is the third largest city of Switzerland situated at the shores of Lake Geneva. Geneva is the headquarters of various international organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF and Red Cross, which makes its reputation as the “Capital of Peace”.  Some of the popular places in Geneva are the Jet d `Eau fountain- the tallest fountain in the world, town hall, botanical garden and Opera House.

Zermatt: Zermatt is located at the foot of Matterhorn, the most photographed mountain of the world. Because of its numbers of hiking and ski region, Zermatt is one of the world`s most popular vacation village. The ski region of the Zermatt is known as “Matterhorn Glacier Paradise”.

Chillon Castle: Chillon Castle, one of the well known castles in Switzerland is located at the shore of Lake Geneva and the Alps. Chillon Castle was built in 11th century is most visited historical building in Switzerland. Chillon Castle is an architectural jewel and a mindboggling for the visitors.

Swiss National Park: Swiss National Park is the only park of the Switzerland, covering 170 Km of mountains and woodland. It is located in the lovely Engadine valley at the height of 1400-3200 meters. The park is home to a variety of wildlife such as golden eagle, marmots, ibexes, chamois and red deer. 

Food: Cheese Fondue- melted cheese with garlic and white wine, Rosti-fried/ baked potatoes, Bundnernusstorte- a pastry, Zurchergeschnetzeltes- calf meat/ veal liver basically cooked with mushrooms and wine, Birchermuesli- a jumble of Oat, fruit, nuts, lemon juice and condensed milk.

Climate: Switzerland has moderate and stable climate, with temperature ranges from 20 C to 30 C in summer (June - August) and -2 to 8 C in winter (December - February). Temperature may vary depending on the altitude.
