The Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is Australia`s most recognizable building and is an icon of Australia`s creative and technical achievement. The Sydney Opera is a multi venue performing art centre in Sydney, Australia. Since its inauguration in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II, it has attracted worldwide praise for its design and construction, enhanced by its location on Bennelong point in Sydney Harbour, close to Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is a bold and creative experiment that has had an enduring influence on the emergent architecture of late 20th century.   

The Sydney Opera House is designed by Danish architecture Jorn Utzon in 1958, and the building was completed in 1973. The construction of The Opera House began in March 1959. It was built in three stages, firstly the podium then the roof and lastly the interiors of the building. The roofs of the Opera house is decorated with 1,056,000 glazed tiles imported from Sweden and the interior of the house is composed of pink granite. The building has five theatres, five rehearsal studios, two main halls, restaurants, bars and number of souvenir shops.  

Today the Opera House is a national cultural venue that has gained well-known recognition and regard as a performing arts venue. The Sydney Opera House is one of the popular tourist destinations in Australia. The House witnesses more than 3000 events each year and receives an annual audience of nearly 2,000,000 for its performance.
