Italy

Italy is an European country situated between the Tyrrhenian sea in the west and Adriatic on the west. Italy is a peninsula bounded by France, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia in the north. Its total land area is about 301,230 sq km. The history of Italy was as old as 3000 years. Known for their beautiful coastlines, superb art, ruins, mountains and flavorful food, Italy is the fifth most visited country in the world. Italy has population of approximately around 62 million (2013 est.).

Popular tourist destination in Italy includes Rome, Venice, Sicily, Milan, Sorrento, Capri, Florence, Cinque Terra. Some of the famous monuments in Italy are Leaning Tower of Pisa, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Doge`s Palace, Vatican and Pantheon.

Some of the most famous attractions in Italy

Rome: Rome is an ancient city and the capital of Italy. Rome has got various historical heritage places such as the Colosseum, Vatican museum, Pantheon and the Roman Forum. Other places to visit in Rome are Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, St. Peter Basilica Churches and Villa Borgghese park. Rome is considered as a global city because of its brilliant shopping experience and nightlife. 

Venice: Venice, one of the most beautiful cities of Italy is famous for its history, arts and world famous canals, is basically a group of islands. Some of the popular attractions in Venice are St. Mark`s Square, Doge`s palace and Island of Murano.

Leaning Tower of Pisa: “Leaning” Tower of Pisa was built in 1173 to serve as the cathedral`s bell tower.   The tower has 8 stories and it is 60 meters tall weighing around 14,600 metric tons. Soon afterward the construction it started to lean toward one side that’s why it is popular by the name of Leaning Tower of Pisa.  

Milan: Milan is the fashion capital of the world and second major tourist destination in Italy. Major tourist attraction in Milan are Duomo and Piazza, Milan Cathedral, the Teatro alla Scala, the Sforza Castle, etc. Milan is a great place for shopping. 

Capri: Capri, a major resort destination since Roman time is a famous island on Tyrrhenian Sea. The popular tourist attractions in Capri are Grotta Azzurra, Piazza Umberto, Blur Grotto, Villa St. Michel, etc. Summer season is best time to visit Capri.

Roman Forum: The Roman Forum is one of the World`s most popular monuments, built 2,000 years ago at the peak of Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, the forum was the centre of the Roman Empire. The Roman Forum Plaza has temples of gods, monuments of great rulers, Senate other government buildings, community forum, The Regia- the royal residence and the Tabularium, where the records were kept.

Food: Pizza, Spaghetti (type of noodle/ pasta), Gelato (Italian version of ice cream), Risotto, Tiramisu, Mortadella.

Climate: Climate varies considerably from north- very cold winters and hot summer to south- mild summer and winter season.
