Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th century Romanesque revival palace built on a rocky cliff against a scenic mountain backdrop near Fussen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The King Ludwig II had built the castle in order to withdraw from public life between 1869 and 1886. Neuschwanstein Castle was opened for public in 1886, seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II. Neuschwanstein Castle actually looks like a fairytale castle. Neuschwanstein Castle has been an inspiration for Walt Disneyland.

While building of Neuschwanstein Castle replicates the 13th century Romanesque style, some of the wall paintings are based on themes from Wagnerian operas. The castle has a very beautiful garden encircled by a walled courtyard. The interiors of the castle are majestically decorated. The two storey throne room was designed in Byzantine style with wall paintings depicting angels.

Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most popular palaces and castle in Europe and most photographed building in Germany. Around 1.4 million tourists visit the castle every year. Tourists are amazed by the stunning and beautiful landscape that surrounds the castle.
